Wanted human trafficker arrested in Tripura in joint operation by GRP, police, BSF
Once again another cross-border human trafficker was involved with trafficking of many Bangladeshi and Rohingyas illegally into Indian territory was arrested by a joint force of Government Railway Police (GRP), BSF and Tripura police from bordering Belabar area, at the outskirts of Agartala on Thursday night.
Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of GRP at Agartala Railway station, Tapash Das said that the GRP arrested a wanted human trafficker accused in a previous case registered with the GRP in a coordinated and joint operation of the BSF, GRP and state police from Amtali police station. He was arrested from Paulpara area of Belabar village under West Tripura district.
Das said that the human trafficker was identified as Raju Miah, 40. He was allegedly involved in trafficking of Bangladeshi and other foreign nationals including Rohingyas across the Indo-Bangla international border in the area for quite some time.
GRP personnel were conducting raids in plain clothes for a few days in search of him, but they were unable to arrest him, said Das and added that on Thursday night based on secret information, GRP in association with BSF and personnel from Amtali police station have finally arrested him.
Das said that GRP during preliminary investigation has got the names of several other human traffickers in the area connected with arrested trafficker Raju Maih and will soon bring them to justice as per law.
Earlier on November 9, seven persons, including six Bangladeshi nationals who were planning to move to Chennai, were arrested in Gomati district of Tripura.
Two days prior to that, six Bangladeshi nationals, including three persons of the third gender, were arrested after they entered Tripura's territory without any valid document with the intention to move to other states of India. A few days prior to that, three Bangladeshi citizens including a four-year-old child were held for illegally entering the state, with the intention to move to other states via train.
A huge number of Bangladeshi and Rohingya persons were arrested in Agartala Railway Station and different parts of Tripura in the last few months while they were trying to board trains or vehicles out of the state.
The Bangladeshi citizens after illegally entering Tripura were trying to board a train to go to other parts of the country via Guwahati.
In the last two months, altogether 1346 Bangladesh nationals and 101 Rohingyas were arrested by security forces from different borders of the state.
AIG(Police Control) Ananta Das said that the Tripura police along with other security forces including BSF and Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) in August, 2024 had arrested altogether 620 Bangladesh nationals and 44 Rohingyas for their illegal entry. Similarly, police and other security forces have also arrested 726 Bangladeshi and 57 more Rohingyas in September, 2024.
