Wife and minor daughter missing; anger mounts over police role as darkness engulfs a mason family in Kailashahar

Agartala, Mar 1: What was meant to secure a better future for his family has turned into a nightmare for Bipul Malakar, a resident of Ward No. 6 under Samarurpar Gram Panchayat in Chandipur block of Kailashahar under Unakoti district.

After travelling to Bangalore in search of work to improve his family’s financial condition, Bipul now finds his household shattered, with his wife Supriya Malakar and their nine-year-old daughter mysteriously missing.

According to family sources, Bipul had gone to Bangalore for work in December 2025. During his stay there, he frequently found his wife’s phone engaged for long periods. Supriya reportedly claimed she was speaking with her mother. However, when Bipul directly contacted his mother-in-law one day, he learned that Supriya’s claim was false. When he questioned her about this, tensions escalated, and Supriya allegedly blocked his number.

On January 9, Supriya left home, reportedly telling family members that she was going to her parental home in Kalain of Assam state, taking along their daughter while leaving the two elder daughters at home. The family remained in contact with her until January 10. However, on January 14, Bipul’s mother-in-law called to inform him that Supriya had been missing for the past four days.

Bipul rushed back from Bangalore and lodged a missing diary at the Kailashahar Women’s police station on January 22 alst. Subsequently, Supriya allegedly contacted him from two different phone numbers, stating that she was safe and should not be searched for. Bipul claims he provided these numbers to the police, but alleges that no action has been taken by the Kailashahar Women’s police station.

He further alleges that even after one month and eight days since filing the complaint, he has not been provided with a copy of the FIR or the received diary entry. Instead, he claims that police officials have made various “unethical demands.”

Meanwhile, the two daughters left at home are reportedly crying day and night, waiting for their mother and younger sister to return. Overwhelmed by anxiety about his missing wife and child, alleged police harassment, and mounting financial hardship, Bipul Malakar says his life has become unbearable.

The role of the Kailashahar Women police station has reportedly drawn criticism in the past as well, with earlier cases requiring intervention from the district Superintendent of Police (SP) to prompt action. Concerned citizens are now questioning whether the family of a poor mason will receive justice and why, despite having phone numbers and relevant information, the police have not expedited the investigation.

For now, Bipul continues to wait anxiously for the return of his wife and daughter. It remains to be seen whether the district police administration will step in to assist this distressed family.
