World Cup victory celebration: Rash and negligence driving, one rider killed, another critical
After ending the 11 years old drought, finally on Saturday midnight, when Team India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in Barbados, the people of Agartala along with entire nation starts the celebration of massive victory by organizing bike , car rallies, bursting firecrackers etc.
But, reckless driving by a section of youths under the influence of liquor marred the spirit of celebration in Agartala and many road traffic accidents (RTAs) reported in different parts of Agartala city on Saturday midnight.
In such a tragic road mishap a held near Laxmi-Narayan temple and in front of Sherowali Sweets at about 11.45 PM, a speeding motorbike and another speeding Scooty collided face on from opposite direction.
Hearing the heavy sound of a crushed bike and scooty , some local people including youths enjoining the celebration of victory of India team rushed to the spot in front of Ujjayanta palace.
Seeing tragic scenes of the accident, they immediately called the police and firefighters and within a few minutes, they rushed to the spot and found the scooty rider died on the spot and the bike rider also suffered critical injuries. Both of them were shifted to GB Hospital, where a visiting doctor at Trauma centre declared brought dead of Scooty rider identified as Ratul Banik (25) of Joynagar area of Agartala.
While, critically injured bike rider has been identified as Rani Sutradhar (19) of Camper Bazar area of AD Nagar, by profession of mason admitted at the trauma centre of GB Hospital.
Police sources said that both the motorcycles smashed into pieces after heavy collision of both of them and both riders were recovered in the middle of road and in a pool of blood. Police also said that both injured and deceased riders were admitted to GB Hospital in intoxicated conditions and only reckless and rash driving is responsible for that fatal mishap.
