Young couple arrested from Agartala rail station with arms, ammunitions
Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested two youths including a woman with sophisticated American made pistol, magazines and cash after their arrival at the station from ‘Jana Satapdi’ express on Friday midnight.
Giving details officer-in-charge (OC) of GRP of Agartala railway station, Tapash Das said that GRP and state intelligence wing has received specific information that two persons will arrive at Agartala from Jana Satapdi express with arms and ammunition.
Based on the specific inputs, GRP along with other security forces were deployed to all the platforms of the state and when at about 10.30 PM, Jana Satapdi express arrived at the station, the security personnel started searching for the two youths, said Das.
He said that forces suddenly noticed the suspicious movements of a couple , who were horridly leaving the station through an escalator. Immediately, GRP personnel detained them and in the course of the search operation, police recovered a sophisticated US made 9 mm pistol and two empty magazines from the wallet of lady, identified as Priya Debbarma (22) of Khowai district.
Police recovered two mobile sets from her male companion, Karan Deb Barma (24), who was also a resident of Khowai district and some cash amount from his possession.
The OC of GRP said that two arrested persons revealed that they were coming from Dharmanagar and police, after registering a specific case under Arms Act, have started investigation to unearth the arms dealing network. On Saturday, both arrested youths were produced before a local court with seven days police remand appeals for interrogation.
