In a significant breakthrough against inter-state drug smuggling, police detained a young housewife from an affluent family near Teliamura Railway Station carrying a large quantity of brown sugar. The woman was travelling from Silchar in Assam to Agartala when she was intercepted.
According to police sources, personnel from Teliamura Police Station in Khowai district, led by the Officer-in-Charge, acted on specific intelligence input and detained the suspect near Trishabari after she arrived on the Silchar–Agartala local train.
During a search of her belongings, the police recovered four soap cases containing brown sugar, estimated to be worth around Rs. 7 lakh in the international market.
The arrested woman reportedly has her in-laws’ residence in the Khayerpur area and her parental home at Suryamaninagar near Tripura University. For the sake of the ongoing investigation, her identity has not been disclosed.
A case has been registered against her under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. She will be produced before a local court, and police will seek her remand for further interrogation to uncover details of the inter-state drug network.
