Youth hacks middle-aged man over old rivalry in Sonamura
In a sensational and brutal incident, a youth allegedly hacked a middle-aged man following an old rivalry at Urmai village under Sonamura police station in Sepahijala district on Sunday. After the assault, the accused surrendered at the local police station.
According to police sources, the accused youth, identified as Falgunmani Debbarma (29), had longstanding enmity with two individuals — Bipul Debbarma and Golokhari Debbarma. The duo had allegedly set fire to his house about one and a half months ago, for which Falgunmani had lodged a police complaint.
On Sunday, while Falgunmani’s mother was collecting latex from their rubber garden in the interior area of Kuraiyamura village, Bipul and Golokhari allegedly threatened and verbally abused her.
Upon receiving the information, Falgunmani rushed to the spot in search of his mother. There, he was reportedly attacked by Bipul and Golokhari with sharp weapons and lathis.
In his confessional statement to the police, Falgunmani claimed that he retaliated in self-defense and attacked Bipul with a sharp weapon, severely injuring him.
Local villagers later rescued the critically injured Bipul Debbarma and shifted him to Sonamura Subdivisional Hospital. After primary treatment, doctors referred him to GBP Hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries.
