The installation, illuminated by softly glowing artificial candles, represented the children who have lost their lives since the Russian invasion began.

"We can't pronounce every name of children dying in Ukraine, but we can stay here, pray and just hope the war ends," said Oksana Khuytsia, a Ukrainian mother who attended the event, as quoted by CBC News.

The memorial coincided with World Children's Day, a day recognised globally to affirm children's rights and wellbeing.

The United Nations report stated that at least 669 children were killed in both government-held and Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine between February 2022 and December 2024.

Most of the deaths resulted from the use of explosive weapons in populated areas.

The UN says the actual toll is likely far higher than the number of confirmed fatalities.

By the end of October, the number of children killed during the war had climbed to at least 745, according to the report.
