Did Elon Musk join Modi-Trump call on Iran war? Report reveals unusual private presence
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk reportedly joined a high-level phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump earlier this week, according to a report by The New York Times.
The call, held on Tuesday, focused on the ongoing conflict involving Iran and marked the first direct interaction between the two leaders since the escalation began on February 28 following military strikes by the United States and Israel.
Citing unnamed US officials, the report described Musk’s participation as highly unusual, noting that a private individual rarely joins discussions between heads of state during a wartime crisis.
First Modi–Trump interaction since conflict began
The conversation between Modi and Trump came amid heightened tensions in West Asia after coordinated military actions targeting Iran triggered broader regional concerns.
The call represented a significant diplomatic exchange as both countries monitor the unfolding situation.
According to the report, two US officials confirmed Musk’s presence on the call, though it remains unclear why he was included or whether he actively contributed to the discussion.
White House confirms ‘productive’ exchange
The White House acknowledged that the conversation between the two leaders took place, describing it as constructive.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump shares a strong relationship with Prime Minister Modi and characterised the discussion as productive.
However, the administration did not elaborate on Musk’s reported involvement in the call.
Musk’s re-emergence in Trump’s orbit
The reported development also signals a possible shift in relations between Musk and Trump.
The two had experienced tensions last year following Musk’s departure from a government role, where he had been tasked with reducing the federal workforce.
His presence during a sensitive geopolitical discussion suggests a potential recalibration of ties, although no official explanation has been provided regarding his participation.
Focus on strategic maritime route
During the call, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, secure and accessible.
The narrow maritime corridor is considered a critical route for global energy supplies and international trade.
Modi highlighted that maintaining stability in the region is essential for global peace, economic stability and uninterrupted energy flows, particularly as tensions continue to rise.
Unanswered questions around private participation
Despite confirmations of the call and its broad agenda, questions remain over Musk’s role and the rationale behind his inclusion.
The report noted that it is not known whether he spoke during the conversation or simply listened in.
