Former president Barack Obama praises Joe Biden as he drops out of presidential race, warns about 'unchartered waters ahead'
Former US President Barack Obama on Sunday praised Joe Biden after he quit the 2024 Presidential race and described him as a 'patriot of highest order'.
"Joe Biden has been one of America’s most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me. Today, we’ve also been reminded — again — that he’s a patriot of the highest order," Obama said in a statement where he commented on Biden's decision to drop out of the Presidential race.
Obama, however, did not clarify whether he supported Biden's decision to endorse Kamala Harris as Democratic nominee.
Obama warned the country would be 'navigating uncharted waters' in the days ahead.
"But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges," Obama said.
" I believe that Joe Biden’s vision of a generous, prosperous, and united America that provides opportunity for everyone will be on full display at the Democratic Convention in August. And I expect that every single one of us are prepared to carry that message of hope and progress forward into November and beyond," the former US President said.
Biden served as the Vice President of the USA from 2009 to 2017 during Obama's tenure.
US President Joe Biden on Sunday announced he will not seek re-election in the 'best interest' of his party and the country.
Biden was under pressure to quit the presidential race following his struggling performance in the debate with many within his party doubting his candidacy and re-election attempt.
Biden made the announcement just four months before the USA votes to elect a new President.
