From ex-US First Lady’s past to murder charge: Who is William Stevenson?
Former US President Joe Biden's wife Jill Biden's ex-husband has been charged with the killing of his current wife at their Delaware home in December, police said.
77-year-old William Stevenson was married to Jill Biden from 1970 to 1975.
They wed when Biden was 18 and Stevenson was 23, reported BBC.
New Castle County Police in Delaware said William Stevenson was arrested after a week-long probe into the death of his current wife Linda Stevenson.
"Detectives from the Division’s Criminal Investigations Unit, in coordination with the Delaware Department of Justice, presented the case to a grand jury. As a result, an indictment was returned by the New Castle County Superior Court charging 77-year-old William Stevenson with Murder in the First Degree," police said in a statement.
"Once the indictment was obtained, Detectives responded to Stevenson’s residence in the 1300 block of Idlewood Road and took him into custody without incident," police said.
William Stevenson was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with one felony count of Murder in the First Degree.
"William Stevenson was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $500,000.00 cash bail," the statement said.
Jill Biden and Joe Biden married in 1977.
Joe Biden had served as the US president from January 2021 to January 2025.
