The Michigan Incident
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security told CNN that Ayman Ghazali, 41, drove a vehicle into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, near Detroit, before exchanging fire with security officers and dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The attack occurred amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which prompted retaliatory attacks by Tehran on several Gulf cities.
Ayman Ghazali, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Lebanon, had previously been flagged in government databases for connections to suspected Hezbollah members, though officials told CNN he was not believed to be a member himself.
