Hezbollah warns Israel of surprise attack

By IBNS
May 26, 2024..

As the Gaza conflict continues into its eighth month, Lebanese group Hezbollah, supported by Iran, is reportedly gearing up for a surprise assault on Israel, the media reported.

In a televised address, the group's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, cautioned Israel to brace for unexpected developments.

"You must expect surprises from our resistance," he said on Friday, which marks the 24th anniversary of Resistance and Liberation Day.

Hezbollah, which became a formidable force during the Lebanese Civil War, has been fighting Israel in support of the Palestinian cause and Gaza.

Israel launched a military offensive in Gaza following the October 7 attack by the Palestinian Hamas group, which resulted in over a thousand deaths in Israeli border towns.

However, Nasrallah pointed out that Israeli leaders have conceded they have not met their objectives in the Gaza war.

He cited Israeli National Security Council head Tzachi Hanegbi's admission that none of their strategic goals have been achieved and that it might take years to do so.

Nasrallah also highlighted the challenges faced by Israel, which has the backing of Western nations.

"The recognition of the Palestinian state by a number of European countries is a great loss for the occupation," Middle East Monitor cited him as saying.

He said this recognition was one of the outcomes of the "Al-Aqsa Flood battle", the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

"One of the results of the Al-Aqsa Flood and the steadfastness of the resistance is that today Israel is appearing before the ICC (International Criminal Court)," he said.

Nasrallah alleged Israel of disregarding the international resolutions and carrying out violent raids on Rafah despite the International Court of Justice (ICJ) order to immediately stop its military operation.

Hanegbi, a top aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated following the ICJ ruling that Israel has the right to defend itself.
