Muhammad Yunus says Bangladesh wants to establish good relationship with India
Bangladesh interim government chief Muhammad Yunus has said he wants to establish a good relationship with India and other neighbouring nations.
He said the relationship should be based on fairness and equality.
"With India, we have already started discussions on high-level bilateral cooperation in dealing with floods," Yunus said in a televised speech in the evening marking the first month of his government as quoted by Dhaka Tribune.
He said the initiative has been taken to revive the SAARC grouping of nations.
“We want the country to be known with respect to the world as a democratic country," he said.
Bangladesh witnessed political turmoil in recent times which led to the fall of PM Sheikh Hasina-led government.
The protest which was initially held to protest against job quota row soon escalated into a movement against the Hasina regime and eventually led to her fall.
Hasina fled to India amid violent protests.
Following Sheikh Hasina's exit, an interim government under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus took charge of the country.
