In a dramatic turn of events, a missing US fighter jet crew member has been rescued following what President Donald Trump described as one of the most “daring” search-and-rescue operations in American military history.
What happened
The incident began on Friday when Iran shot down a U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle carrying two crew members—a pilot and a weapons systems officer.
While one was rescued almost immediately, the second officer remained missing, triggering an urgent and high-risk search operation.
After nearly two days of uncertainty, US forces launched a complex rescue effort deep in hostile territory.
The mission, carried out under intense risk, successfully located and recovered the missing crew member.
Trump declares ‘historic operation’
Announcing the development, President Donald Trump called it one of the most daring rescue missions in U.S. history.
“WE GOT HIM! … one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History… He is now SAFE and SOUND!” he wrote on Truth Social.
According to Al Jazeera, the rescued officer—whose identity remains undisclosed—has not yet been evacuated from Iranian territory due to ongoing hostilities.
Officials warn that the situation remains volatile, with continued risks to both the crew member and rescue teams.
