Nagaland: Chakhesang Public Organisation undertakes massive tree plantation drive to preserve biodiversity
Phek/Nagaland: The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), in line with their resolution made 23 years ago, is launching a significant tree plantation initiative to commemorate Chakhesang Day and celebrate 50 years of Phek district's formation.
The drive, commencing on World Environment Day 2023, aims to plant 50,000 tree saplings across 180 kilometers with the participation of over 70 Chakhesang villages and a thousand volunteers.
Fruit, flowering, and ornamental trees will be planted, enhancing the district's beauty and biodiversity.
The initiative is a collaborative effort involving various organizations and the district administration. CPO emphasizes the importance of preserving biodiversity and ensuring the survival of the newly planted trees through an after-care program.
The event receives widespread support from concerned citizens, and villages have been assigned the responsibility of nurturing the trees.
CPO Treasurer Rekha Rose Dukru highlights the organization's commitment to conservation and addresses climate change implications. Dr. Sao Tunyi provides technical expertise to ensure appropriate tree selection and placement.
The initiative gains support through crowd funding and contributions from individuals, villages, and the Forest Department. Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant emphasizes the impact on future generations and calls for collective responsibility in safeguarding the environment.
