Meyyappan has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's youngest male Chartered Accountant, achieving the feat in Dubai at the age of 16 years and 141 days.
Journey began during COVID-19 lockdown
Meyyappan's interest in accounting developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, shortly after he completed his Class 10 board examinations.
According to an earlier profile by PwC Academy, his mother, who is also an ACCA, introduced him to basic accounting concepts during the lockdown.
The experience sparked his interest, prompting him to pursue the ACCA qualification himself.
He began studying for ACCA at the age of 15 and completed the qualification in roughly a year.
From ACCA to CFA
Completing ACCA was only the beginning of Meyyappan's academic journey. He later went on to earn the CFA charter and is currently pursuing an MSc in Finance.
His academic achievements have also been accompanied by professional experience. Meyyappan currently works as a Senior Research Analyst at Century Financial in Dubai, where his responsibilities include investment research, financial analysis and decision-making in financial markets.
Finance isn't his only interest
Despite his intense focus on academics and finance, Meyyappan has interests beyond the financial world.
In his free time, he enjoys designing and building watches, combining his interest in creativity with hands-on work.
'I have never approached qualifications as a race'
Reflecting on his Guinness World Records achievement, Meyyappan said the milestone was meaningful to him but insisted that speed was never his primary motivation.
“This milestone means a lot to me, but I have never approached qualifications as a race,” he said.
“What mattered was understanding how finance works in the real world and building skills that remain relevant over time,” he added.
Meyyappan said that when learning is driven by curiosity rather than speed, the outcome becomes more meaningful.
An unusual path into finance
Meyyappan's journey offers an unconventional example of how young students can explore professional qualifications soon after completing school.
Rather than stopping after earning one qualification, he has continued to pursue higher studies while gaining practical experience in the financial sector.
For students interested in accounting and finance, his story also highlights the range of professional opportunities available beyond the conventional degree route.
