Amarnath yatra resumes by helicopter; foot yatra remains suspended amid heavy rains
Srinagar/IBNS: Chopper service for Amarnath Yatra resumed on Sunday, but treks were temporarily suspended from the Pahalgam and Baltal routes in Kashmir due to inclement weather, officials said.

The chopper server was resumed at Baltal base camp in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district this morning, and pilgrims were taken to the cave shrine for darshan in five sorties so far. Six among them have paid obeisance at the cave shrine of Amarnath so far.
They said the weather is cloudy at present and the trek is slippery at various places, making the on-foot journey impossible.
"As soon as the weather further improves, the yatra will resume accordingly," officials said.
No devotee was allowed to proceed from the traditional Nunwan Pahalgam base camp in south Kashmir on Sunday due to slippery trek conditions caused by intermittent rainfall.
The rain has stopped; however, the trek is slippery at various points of the Amarnath route, officials added.
According to them, more than 86,000 devotees had paid obeisance at the cave shrine since the commencement of the yatra on July 1.
