Australia: Pro-Khalistan supporters attack Indians carrying Tricolour, 5 hurt

Melbourne: At least five persons were hurt as pro-Khalistan supporters allegedly attacked Indians, who were carrying Tricolour in their hands, in Melbourne city of Australia on Sunday.


According to media reports, two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The injured people are undergoing treatment in hospital.

The Australia Today tweeted earlier: " Most detailed video proof of Khalistani goons attacking Indian Australians with knives."

In the video, Khalistani supporters were seen attacking the Indian supporters who were holding the national flag.

An individual could be seen throwing the Indian flag to the ground.

Victoria Police said the two arrested people, who are in their 30s, have been issued a penalty notice for "riotous behaviour".

India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party leader  Manjinder Singh Sirsa condemned the incident and tweeted: " I strongly condemn anti India activities by pro Khalistani in Australia. Anti-social elements that are trying to disrupt the peace & harmony of the country with these activities, must be dealt with strongly and culprits must be brought to books."

Meanwhile, Indian High Commissioner to Australia Manpreet Vohra  has met   Premier of Victoria Dan Andrews and discussed the violence in Melbourne.

He tweeted: "It was a privilege to call on Premier of Victoria@DanielAndrewsMP today. Discussed our strong and  growing bilateral relationship, the violence in Melbourne yesterday, and how to stop extremist Khalistani groups engaging in further activities prejudicial to peace and harmony."

 He also visited the Hindu temple in Melbourne which was vandalized recently.
