The Indian Embassy in Turkey said that the body of an Indian national, identified as Vijay Kumar, was found days after several earthquakes hit Turkey.

The victim belonged to the hill state of Uttarakhand and was working for a Bengaluru-based company. He was on a business trip to Turkey, said the embassy.

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Turkey and Syria on Monday, destroying thousands of structures, leaving an unknown number of people buried under rubble and potentially affecting millions.

Malatya is one of the one cities worst-hit by the devastating earthquake that killed at least 25,000 people.

As many as 32,000 rescuers from Turkish bodies have joined the search and rescue efforts. In addition, there are 8,294 international rescuers.

India has sent material, medical supplies and equipment to Syria and provided search and rescue teams to Turkey under 'Operation Dost', External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said earlier this week.

The quake was the most powerful and deadliest since 33,000 people died in a 7.8-magnitude tremor in 1939, media reports said.
