President Droupadi Murmu arrives in Kolkata on maiden Bengal visit since assuming office
Kolkata/UNI: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday arrived in the city on her maiden visit to West Bengal after taking oath.
At the airport, she was greeted by State Governor C V Ananda Bose, senior minister Firhad Hakim and many other senior officials.
The President was also given a Guard of Honour at the city airport.
From the airport she was flown to Calcutta Race Course in the city on her way to Netaji Bhawan.
The Governor also accompanied her in the chopper for the Race Course in Alipore, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee greeted the visiting President.
On Monday the President will visit Netaji Bhawan in Kolkata to pay homage to Netaji. She will also attend a civic reception, hosted in her honour at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata, the same evening.
Later in the day, she will pay respect to Rabindranath Tagore at his house, Jorasanko Thakurbari.
She will also hold a meeting of tribal groups at Raj Bhawan.
On Tuesday the President will visit Santiniketan to attend the annual convocation of Visva-Bharati.
The President will also visit Belur Math, besides gracing the celebration of the completion of 80 years of UCO Bank in Kolkata.
