Security beefed up for Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma following pro-Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu's threat
Guwahati: The Assam police have alerted all districts Superintendents of Police (SPs) and the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, and beefed up the security of Himanta Biswa Sarma after a pro-Khalistani terrorist allegedly threatened the Assam Chief Minister in an audio clip over action against Amritpal Singh and aides.
Hiren Nath, ADGP (SB) of Assam police said Assam police are verifying the audio with the central agencies about its authenticity.
"We have alerted all district Superintendents of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati. We are now verifying this," Hiren Nath told IBNS.
In the audio, the pro-khalistani leader allegedly said: "This message is for Assam CM Dr Himanta Sarma. Your government is harassing and torturing pro-Khalistan Sikhs in Assam. And also torturing those who are in jail. Listen carefully CM Sarma, the fight is between pro-Khalistan Sikhs and Indian regime and Modi. Sarma you don't pray fall to this violence. We are seeking the liberation of Punjab from Indian occupation through a peaceful democratic process of Khalistan referendum. Sarma, if your government is going to torture and harass Sikhs, you will be held accountable."
The man, whose voice could be heard in the audio, claimed that he is Gurpatwant Singh Pannu of Sikh for Justice (SFJ).
On the other hand, Assam DGP GP Singh said that reference audio clip threatening Assam CM by a person called Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a designated individual terrorist under Indian law and heading an unlawful association called Sikh for Justice a case under appropriate sections of IPC and UAP Act has been registered at STF Police Station of Assam.
"The security component of Hon CM has been adequately sensitised to the emerging threat. In view of global events, the threat is being taken very seriously by Assam Police. The central agencies have been kept in the loop on the issue," the Assam DGP said.
