Thousands of devotees pay tributes to Lord Buddha's relics in Thailand's Ubon Ratchathani

Thousands of devotees gathered at Wat Maha Wanaram in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, to pay their tributes to the holy relics of Lord Buddha and his two disciples.


The Indian Embassy in Thailand posted on X: "The holy relics of Lord Buddha &his two disciples are enshrined at Wat Maha Wanaram in Ubon Ratchathani today at a solemn ceremony held in the presence of dignitaries and venerable monks. Thousands of devotees pay their respects &witness in a vibrant procession with the sacred relics."

The sacred relics of Lord Buddha and disciples Arahant Sariputta and Arahant Maha Moggallana reached Ubon Ratchathani on Saturday.

The sacred relics were previously displayed in Chiang Mai.

The relics arrived by a special aircraft at Don Mueang airport for a 25-day long exposition.

The holy relics are visiting four cities in Thailand till March 19.

Earlier, exposition the holy relics of Lord Buddha from India was held in Thailand in 1995-96 which marked the 50th anniversary of King Rama IX’s accession to the throne. The relics of Arahata Sariputta and Arahata Moggallana were brought to India in 1952 by Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, a renowned Indian statesman and the President of Maha Bodhi Society at that time.
