Carriage and Wagon workshops of NFR achieved remarkable performance

Guwahati: Continuing in the path of excellence, New Bongaigaon and Dibrugarh workshop under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) have marked remarkable increase in maintenance of train coaches &goods wagons. Both the workshops have delivered higher quantity of maintenance outturn of coaches & wagons during the month of February, 2024.Overhauling of coaches and wagons are carried out to provide comfortable travel experience to passengers and to ensure safety in operation.

During the month of February, 2024, New Bongaigaon workshop has carried out Intermediate Overhauling (IOH) of 64 setsLinke Hofmann Busch (LHB) & ICF (Conventional Type) trolleys as against given target of 50 sets per month. Periodical Overhauling (POH) of 55 coaches (27 LHB & 28 ICF) including 02 power cars were also accomplished during the month. 206 wheel sets were out turned from wheel lathe and were supplied to divisions to reduce the detention of rolling stocks. Also, 154 wagons & 06 brake vans were out turned with conversion of 12 trolleys of 06 wagons into high-speed trolleys. Further, for effective and faster braking 46 wagons were converted to twin pipe air brake system from the conventional single pipe air brake system.

Similarly, during the month of February, 2024, periodical maintenance of 33 LHB coaches & 34 ICF coaches were done against the target of 20 LHB coaches& 30 ICF coaches by Dibrugarh workshop. The POH outturn for conventional coaches in Dibrugarh workshop went to 67 against the given target of 50 during the month. 614 wheel sets (355 LHB & 259 ICF) were overhauled from the workshop. In a bid to resist fire in trains, 19 nos. of LHB AC coaches were fitted with Fire Detection System in the workshop and also in user depots. Modification in Air Brake System with standardized fittings were carried out in 15 coaches. Scrap disposal by Dibrugarh workshop in February, 2024 went up to 322.70 MT which is almost 160% higher than January, 2024.

Maintenance and repairing of train coaches & goods wagons are done in the workshops as per the prescribed maintenance schedule. Both the rolling stock workshops have already undertaken several infrastructure augmentations works for refurbishing of LHB coaches and increasing their POH capacity. In addition to Periodical Overhauling, Intermediate Overhauling is also carried out for the train coaches regularly at the scheduled interval.
