NFR develops Zubeen Garg Railway Bihutoli at Maligaon ahead of Rongali Bihu celebrations
Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has developed a new Bihutoli—a dedicated cultural ground for celebrating Bihu and other important cultural events—at Maligaon. In a heartfelt tribute to celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, the venue has been named the “Zubeen Garg Railway Bihutoli,” reflecting the deep cultural connection and admiration the artist enjoys across Assam.
The newly developed Bihutoli has been equipped with several modern facilities, including a permanent stage area, dining hall, toilet complex, community space, boundary wall, and an all-weather ground.
The venue is all set to host the annual Rongali Bihu celebrations, which will be organised by the Pandu Bihu Sanmilani, Maligaon, from April 14 to 17, 2026.
In this connection, a pre-Bihu inaugural event was recently held at the newly developed ground. The occasion was graced by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, amid traditional Bihu festivities.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from railway officials, local residents, and cultural enthusiasts, adding vibrancy to the celebration.
Adding grace to the occasion, Palmee Borthakur, sister of Zubeen Garg, was also present during the event. She expressed gratitude on behalf of the family for the honour bestowed upon the legendary artist.
The initiative underscores Northeast Frontier Railway’s commitment to celebrating regional culture and honouring icons who have made significant contributions to society. The naming of the Bihutoli stands as a symbol of Zubeen Garg’s enduring legacy, especially during the vibrant festival of Bihu, which holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Assam.
