NFR RPF arrests offenders, recovers contraband in week – long operations
Guwahati:The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has carried out a series of successful operations between 28th February and 4th March, 2026, demonstrating its strong commitment towards ensuring passenger safety and safeguarding railway property. Through coordinated vigilance and proactive action, RPF personnel across various stations and trains under NFR apprehended offenders, recovered contraband items and rescued vulnerable passengers.
During this period, RPF teams took strict action against unlawful activities affecting railway safety. On 2ndMarch, 2026, RPF personnel at Hojai apprehended a person involved in stone pelting on Train No. 13176 DN between Dhalpukhuri and Lanka section, which caused damage to a window glass though no passenger was injured. Similarly, on 4th March, 2026, RPF staff at Kamakhya arrested another individual for stone pelting on Train No. 15946 DN after crossing the Saraighat Bridge, which resulted in injury to a passenger. Appropriate cases under relevant sections of the Railway Act were registered in both incidents.
RPF teams also achieved major success in preventing illegal transportation of prohibited items. On 2ndMarch, 2026 RPF and GRP personnel at New Alipurduar recovered 50.900 kg of unclaimed ganja worth approximately Rs 25.45 lakh from Train No. 01666 DN. Additionally, several recoveries of unclaimed liquor were made at stations including Guwahati, Rangiya, Katihar, Kishanganj and Barsoi between 1stMarch to 4thMarch, 2026, with the seized items handed over to the concerned Excise authorities for further legal action.
Apart from enforcement activities, RPF personnel also carried out humanitarian initiatives. Between 2ndMarch, 2026 and 4th March, 2026, several runaway minors and vulnerable passengers were rescued at stations such as Guwahati, Badarpur, Lumding and Kamakhya. The rescued individuals were safely handed over to Childline authorities or their guardians after following due procedures.
These operations highlight the continuous efforts of the RPF under Northeast Frontier Railway to maintain a safe, secure and passenger-friendly railway environment across its jurisdiction.
