NFR’s infrastructure pushes to improve DEMU train availability and passenger convenience

Guwahati:The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) continues to reinforce its commitment towards enhancing rail connectivity, improving passenger convenience and strengthening operational infrastructure across the Northeast and adjoining regions. A series of recent initiatives, including infrastructure upgrades and augmentation of DEMU rakes, are set to deliver broader socio-economic benefits to the region.

In a significant development, a Load Box Testing facility has been commissioned at the newly constructed DEMU shed at New Bongaigaon Carriage & Wagon Workshop. The workshop has successfully completed the required electrical modifications, including provision of cable extension and installation of an additional panel for conducting Load Box testing within the new shed itself. This modernized arrangement ensures safe and reliable power supply for testing activities.

With the commissioning of this facility, Driving Power Cars (DPCs) of DEMU rakes will now be tested in the same shed, eliminating the earlier practice of shifting them to another location for Load Box testing. This has reduced unnecessary shunting operations, minimized time loss in movement and optimized manpower utilization. The initiative has significantly streamlined the workflow, resulting in faster turnaround of DEMU rakes and improved operational efficiency.

Simultaneously, NFR has taken proactive steps to augment and maintain DEMU rakes to cater to increasing passenger demand, particularly in short-distance and suburban sections. The improved maintenance capacity and testing infrastructure will ensure higher availability of DEMU services, enhanced reliability and better punctuality.

The broader benefits of these initiatives extend beyond railway operations. Enhanced DEMU availability directly supports daily commuters, students, small traders and office-goers across Assam and other North-eastern states. Improved connectivity contributes to regional economic growth, facilitates easier access to markets, healthcare and educational institutions, and strengthens integration of remote and semi-urban areas with major junctions.

NFR remains committed to adopting modern technology, improving workshop capabilities and upgrading passenger services in line with the vision of Indian Railways to provide safe, efficient and passenger-friendly transportation. Through continuous infrastructure development and service augmentation, NFR is playing a pivotal role in accelerating regional development and ensuring seamless mobility across the Northeast.
