Olokkhis in Goa trailer gives glimpse of four women's trouble-laden trip
Kolkata/IBNS: The trailer of upcoming Bengali web series by Over-the-top (OTT) platform KLiKK, Olokkhis in Goa, was released by the makers on Friday.
Olokkhis in Goa, which is directed by Joydip Banerjee, is centred on four women's plan to take a trip to Goa, at least once in a year much like the characters in the iconic 2001 Hindi film Dil Chahta Hai.
Eventually, they plan a tour to the posh sea-beach destination on the occasion of one of the four's bachelor trips.
Actors Anuradha Mukherjee, Avery Singha Roy, Priyanka Mondal and Priyanka Bhattacharya played the protagonists.
Speaking of her character, Anuradha said, "This is the first time I have played a character which is completely opposite of me. I took time to understand her and had a lot of workshops. It took time to set the tone as Ronita (Anuradha's character) has a lot of shades."
The term 'Olokkhi' in the film's title is often associated with certain characteristics of women in the society.
On this, Avery says, "The term 'Lokkhi' or 'Olokkhi' does not exist to me. Lokkhi means God. All women have the right to live independently. I don't care about the society terming independent living as 'Olokkhipona'."
In a bit of a different take, Priyanka Bhattachaya said, "The term 'Olokkhi' is not negative to me. A woman is a mix of 'Lokkhi' and 'Olokkhi'. Both shades should be there in a woman."
In the course of the 1:54-minute trailer, it is found the protagonists find their individual hindrances to undertake the journey to Goa but when eventually happens, the plot seems to have a twist.
Sharing her reaction to the script when it was offered, Priyanka Mondal said, "I felt this web series would be a hit the moment I got the offer because all men and women at different ages have plans to take a trip to Goa."
The travel story which gives a hint of a twist also features Devraj Bhattacharyya, who has earned massive fame with his acting in Ballabhpurer Roopkotha.
On whether the title is a social message to the audience, director Joydip Banerjee said, "The conventional connotation of the word 'Olokkhi' is very unfortunate. Though I won't be able to change society through a web series, I hope people's conscience is a bit awakened with this."
The web series will be streaming on KLiKK from Jan 22.
