The actress was recently spotted wearing a black T-shirt emblazoned with the words ‘Team Tukaram Mundhe’, appearing to show support for IAS officer and Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, who has been making headlines for his aggressive crackdown on food safety violations, poor hygiene standards and adulteration.

Preity kept the rest of her look simple and casual, allowing the message on her T-shirt to take centre stage.

The apparent show of support comes amid a wider food safety drive led by Mundhe across Mumbai and Maharashtra, with the FDA taking action against restaurants, food suppliers and other establishments over alleged violations of food safety norms.

Mundhe’s latest crackdown has turned the spotlight on ISKCON’s Hare Krishna Land in Juhu, where the Maharashtra FDA suspended the licences of three food establishments over alleged violations of food safety and hygiene regulations.

The action followed an FDA inspection conducted on September 3 and formed part of the department’s broader drive to ensure compliance with food safety standards.

The three establishments include Govinda’s Restaurant, Food Services Restaurant and another ISKCON food outlet.

At Govinda’s Restaurant, FDA officials reportedly found several deficiencies, including the absence of periodic drinking-water testing, inadequate cleaning of raw materials, water accumulation in the cold-storage area and choked drains.

At another establishment, officials reportedly found serious deficiencies relating to food safety, sanitation, pest control, personal hygiene, equipment maintenance, staff training and record-keeping.

ISKCON Juhu Says Corrective Measures Underway

ISKCON Juhu said it has initiated corrective measures in consultation with the FDA after its compliance level was assessed at 70 per cent.

The organisation said its kitchen operations would remain closed until the required corrective measures are completed and full compliance is achieved.

In a statement quoted by The Times of India, ISKCON Juhu said it had received a notice from the FDA following the September 3 inspection and that its representatives were in communication with the department.

The organisation also said the safety, hygiene and well-being of its devotees and guests remained its highest priority and that it was taking the necessary steps to comply with applicable food safety and regulatory standards.

Against this backdrop, Preity Zinta’s ‘Team Tukaram Mundhe’ T-shirt has added a celebrity dimension to the ongoing food safety campaign and quickly caught public attention
