17 minors rescued; one trafficker arrested by RPF of NFR
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully rescued 17 minors with arrest of one trafficker during ongoing checking and drives conducted from January 9th to 16th, 2024 at different trains and railway stations.
Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR through a press statement said that during the month of December, 2023, a total of 43 minors and 3 women were rescued by RPF of NFR and handed over to respective Child Line,NGO’s, parents and GRP for safe custody.
In a recent incident of 16th January, 2024, RPF staff of Jalpaiguri Road Post, rescued one runaway minor girl from Jalpaiguri Road railway station. On the same day, RPF staff of New Bongaigaon Post, rescued one runaway minor girl from New Bongaigaon railway station. Both the rescued minors were handed over to Child Welfare Committee, Jalpaiguri and Bongaigaon for their safe custody.
In an incident on 9th January, 2024, a team of RPF, Kishanganj along with members of Bal Bachao Andolan, Katihar conducted a check at Kishanganj Railway station. During the check they rescued 6 minors and apprehended one human trafficker. Later, the rescued minors along with the trafficker were handed over to OC of GRP, Kishanganj for safe custody and further legal action.
Apart from that, RPF team of ‘Meri Saheli’ of NFR provides assistance to the women passengers travelling alone in trains. During the month of December, 2023, about 1958 women passengers were assisted by this team of RPF.
Preventive measures are being taken to take action in case children in need of care and protection are found in trains and railway premises. RPF carries on a relentless fight against criminals in protecting railway passengers, remains vigilant for suspected persons involved in human trafficking as well as the movement of children in a suspicious manner, travelling alone, without proper guardian etc.
