45 IEDs recovered from NH-102 in Manipur
Imphal: Combined security forces on Tuesday recovered 45 IEDs from National Highway 102, Imphal-Moreh road in Tengnoupal District of Manipur.
According to Police officials, a combined team of BSF and 3rd Assam Rifles on Tuesday morning were conducting road patrol between Bongyang and Senam village(Kuki inhabited area) along the Imphal-Moreh road and came across a suspected big plastic bag by the side of the road. The combined security forces finding the bag suspicious of containing explosives then forwarded the news to Tengnoupal Police and Manipur Police Bomb Squad.
The bomb squad after arriving at the site inspected the bag and found 21 improvised explosive devices with wires for triggering the explosives.
The team of Tengnoupal Police and Manipur Police Bomb Disposal Squad conducted further search along the highway and found another 9 IEDs by the side of a road culvert. The team on searching the other side of the culvert also found 15 more IEDs packed inside a bag planted with wires attached upto 200 metres long.
At around 3 pm in the afternoon, a total of 45 IEDs were found and the bomb squad safely recovered. The recovered IEDs were taken at 3rd Assam Rifles Firing Range in Tengnoupal and safely disposed of at around 4pm in the afternoon by Manipur Police Bomb Disposal Squad.
Police suspect that unknown miscreants planted the IEDs to target security forces who were moving constantly on the highway.
