AMC’s eviction drive continues against encroachment, Mayor visit cleared sites
The eviction drive by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) against encroachment, illegal footpath shops to clear the passages, illegal constructions and illegal parking at the busiest roads in the city from encroachment has been continue on Wednesday also and teams of AMC has also cleared the road by removal of illegal footpath hawkers.
While, the opposition Congress protesting hike of property taxes of AMC and alleged forceful eviction drive in and around the city has decided to march AMC headquarters on October 7 to show their protest against eviction drive just before the festivities.
The massive eviction drive across Agartala city has been continuing since September 30 and on Tuesday, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder accompanied by Commissioner Dr Shailesh Kumar Yadav with a big team of corporation and security forces resumed their eviction drive from Battala to Sakuntala road. The team led by the Mayor evicted encroachers and illegal footpath stalls and cleared the road.
It may be recalled here that again on Wednesday some illegal footpath hawkers set up their stalls by occupying government lands and footpaths in Post office Chowmuhani and Sakuntala road and created obstruction for pedestrians and caused traffic jams. But, within an hour, AMC enforcement teams rushed to the spots and again they cleared the road from illegal footpath hawkers.
On Wednesday, the Mayor visited GB Bazar area of the city, where a massive eviction drive against encroachment was conducted and AMC has cleared a total of 48 shops, which were constructed by occupying government lands and roads.
A jumbo team of police and AMC officials with earth movers, bulldozers and JCP started their drive against encroachment and illegal constructions on government land and one after one many buildings and shops were bulldozed and AMC workers cleared the Indranagar-GB Road during the past few days.
Dipak Majumder on his visit to the encroachment cleared areas said the Corporation has had a number of complaints over illegal construction of houses, flats and evading from property taxes and recently, the council has decided to launch a massive drive against encroachment and illegal constructions.
He said that before encroaching free drive, AMC had served notices to all persons, who illegally occupied the government land and roads.
The AMC under Agartala Smart City project has started construction of drains in both side Indrangar-GB Road and during demarcation of the road, the authorities found many government land and portion of road were encroached by some dwellers and some shopkeepers, said Majumder.
He had also attended a meeting of the members of the market committee and appreciated the co-operation extended from the Market committee during the eviction drive. Majumder said that from Thursday AMC will start the construction of drains in GB Bazar area and will complete the works at any cost.
Tripura Pradesh Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha speaking with media persons after a meeting of the Sadar district committee said that PCC said that it will organize protest movements across the state against abrupt hike of power tariff, property tax hike by AMC and forceful eviction drive. The party has decided to organize a mass protest and ‘AMC Abhijan’ on October 7 to show their protest against inhuman activities of the corporation.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday CITU’s state secretary and former MP Sankar Prasad Datta has also visited GB Bazar area, where dozens of shops were bulldozed by AMC team and met all affected traders.
