Amidst tight security, assembly’s winter session to kick start from January 5

Amidst tight security after a security breach incident in Parliament, the five-day winter session of Tripura Legislative Assembly will start from Friday morning with the speech of Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu.

Official sources said that taking a cue from the incident of a security breach in the Parliament in the last session, Tripura police have taken elaborate security measures for the winter session of the state assembly to be held between January 5th to 11 next.

After several rounds of reviews, the assembly secretariat in a notification said  that no persons or any vehicle, except man-driven rickshaws will be allowed to enter the assembly premises without a valid permit.

MLAs, media personnel and staff of the assembly are required to show their identity cards or valid permits at the entry gate to the security guards on duty. They have been restricted from entering the assembly with co-passengers in their vehicles, except for the personal security guards of the MLAs, said Assembly Secretary Bandeb Majumder.

“No visitors, government employees, media personnel and staff of the assembly will be allowed to enter the assembly hall with bags and other listed items, which may cause the apprehension of a security breach inside the house,” said Majumder.

Earlier, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) which met on December 28, 2024, cleared the business of the upcoming session of Assembly, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratal Lal Nath said.

He said there will be no major businesses on the part of the government but two bills- Tripura Goods & Services Tax (7th amendment) Bill and Tripura State Tribal (4th amendment) Bill be tabled in the floor of the House.

Nath said the first day of the session will be adjourned after the Governor's speech as a mark of respect to BJP MLA Surajit Dutta, who passed away on Wednesday. “This time, the opposition members will get ample opportunity to discuss various issues including views on the Governor’s address. I do believe the session will be beneficial for all sides”, he said.
