In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Customs Department, seized approximately 50,000 Yaba tablets worth an estimated Rs 5 crore from Tripura's Mungiakami area on Saturday.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team intercepted a Mahindra XUV500 bearing registration number AS-01MB-5768 in the general area of Mungiakami. However, upon noticing the security personnel, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into a densely populated civilian area.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of around 50,000 Yaba tablets. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is approximately Rs 5 crore.

The recovered narcotics, along with the seized vehicle, have been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The successful operation underscores the continued commitment of the Assam Rifles, in close coordination with the Customs Department, to combating narcotics trafficking and maintaining peace and security in the region.
