Attack to OC in Belonia: After 5 days of incident, club lodged complaint against OC

In a twist to the incident, in which a police officer of Belonia under South Tripura district was severely attacked by several club members when he and his team tried to stop a DJ performance during a puja-related event on October 24 night and subsequent arrest of seven club members, but on Wednesday that club lodged a complaint against victim police officer.
Sources said that club authorities of Oriental Club of Belonia lodged the complaint against OC of Belonia police station, Shibu Ranjan Dey with allegation of physical abuse to women artists , who were performing in the DJ night, abusing club members and ransacking of all musical instruments and sound system.
Club president Sribash Sen said that they lodged the complaint against OC after five days of incident due to legal complications as seven members of the club were arrested in a ‘false’ case.
Sen said that “they lodged the complaint before SDPO(Belonia) and appealed to him to take legal action against OC Shibu Ranjan Dey, who had destroyed their cultural night and dinner party among local people through his hooliganism”.
It may be recalled here that police on Saturday (October 25) arrested seven people for brutally assaulting the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Belonia police station.
OC Shibu Ranjan Dey, was severely attacked by several club members when he and his team tried to stop a DJ performance during a puja-related event on October 24 night and videos of the incident released in different social media platforms clearly showed how a OC was attacked by miscreants of the club, when he tried to implement the order of High Court over sound pollution and OC, intervened to stop loud music being played late into the night, well beyond the permitted hours.
Dey, an Inspector-rank police officer, was reportedly dragged down from the stage and physically assaulted by a group of club members, triggering widespread condemnation across the state.
The club members not only obstructed the law enforcers but also brutally attacked the OC, leading to chaos at the event site. The injured OC was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, triggering outrage from all sections of society.
Police later registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and arrested seven club members, including the club Secretary and the puja committee President and Secretary.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, speaking to the media after the incident, said that the police are taking strict action against the accused club members.
All major opposition parties, including the CPI (M) and the Congress, strongly condemned the incident.
The Tripura High Court, along with various District Magistrates and the Pollution Control Board, has repeatedly issued orders prohibiting the use of high-volume sound systems after 10 PM.
However, many clubs and puja organizers continue to violate these orders and guidelines.
