Bangladeshi smugglers attacked BSF jawan, snatched his weapon, radio set
A group of miscreants and smugglers from neighbouring Bangladesh attacked a BSF jawan posted at a border fencing gate guarding duty on Sunday in Kalamchowra area of Sepahijala district and after physically assaulting him and snatched his weapon and radio set.
BSF sources said that on Sunday afternoon BSF constable Bhole was performing duty at Indo-Bangladesh border fence Gate No. 196 in area under Kalamchowra Border Outpost (BOP) of Sonamura under Sepahijala district and was tasked with operating the fence gate.
At about 1.30 PM, a large group of Bangladeshi miscreants crossed over the international border illegally and gathered near the fencing gate with the intention to smuggle sugar.
BSF sources added that miscreants started hurling abusive language and instigated the BSF constable on duty with provocative language and vulgar gestures. BSF Jawan, Bhole in order to disperse the miscreants and to prevent smuggling, entered ahead of the fence through the gate, Then Bangladeshi miscreants’ gheraoed and assaulted him and attempted to drag him towards Bangladesh side.
BSF added that miscreants had also snatched his personal weapon along with a radio set. BSF Jawan Bhole somehow managed to escape from the spot, however he was assaulted with bamboo sticks and iron rod due to which he sustained grievous injuries, said BSF.
Later, a commandant level flag meeting was held with the counterpart and a strong protest was lodged by the BSF. During the flag meeting, snatched weapon and radio set were handed back to BSF by Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB).
