Big surprise from BJP, Biplab Kr Deb to contest from West Tripura seat
The day of great relief over signing of peace pact is also a day of great surprise as the BJP has decided to field former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in West Tripura Lok Sabha seat. He was one in the list of 195 released by the party on Saturday that include many heavy weights like the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The announcement was greeted from all sections of the party in the state as Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha in a Facebook post congratulated him. Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik who is replaced by Biplab Deb also congratulated the party and expressed hope that it will bring good for the state. BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee also congratulated Deb and said the party will win in all the 3349 booths.
Biplab Kumar Deb is presently a member of Rajya Sabha and in case of his victory the Rajya Sabha seat may fall vacant.
Though the BJP cleared the name of Biplab Kumar Deb for West Tripura Constituency, a suspense still remains over who is going to be the party candidate in the East Tripura constituency.
Sources said that the BJP state committee has sent two names for the constituency in which the number one name is the former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and the second is the incumbent MP Rebati Tripura.
The name for the by-election of Ramnagar assembly constituency is also not yet declared though the sources said the state BJP has recommended three names for the constituency.
