Biplab, Nath met victim, injured families, handed over compensations
Amidst a pall of gloom and opposition blaming of collective failure on the part of the management and administration in the ‘Rath’ tragedy on June 28 at Kumarghat area of Unakoti district, the former chief minister and incumbent Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday visited Kumarghat and announced financial assistance for all victim and injured persons from his own salary.
On the fourth day of the incident, Deb accompanied by minister Sudhangshu Das and local MLA Bhagaban Chnadra Das after reaching Kumarghat through helicopter visited all the houses of victims and injured persons and talked to their relatives as well as some eyewitnesses of the tragedy.
Deb spoke with media persons expressing his deep sorrow and condolences and also announced financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 to each victim's families and Rs. 15,000 each to all injured persons.
He also appealed to the people to stand by with these families and contribute their best to help these families.
While, on Saturday Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath accompanied by Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) Managing Director (MD) Debasis Sarkar and other top officials of Power department visited GB Hospital and met all injured persons and enquired about their treatment process.
Nath and TSECL authorities have also handed over Rs. 50,000 cash to each relative of admitted injured persons. Nath said that on behalf of TSECL, Rs. 2 lakh each to all victims have already been handed over.
He said that this human tragedy and the government and his department always stand with the families and will continue their support.
Meanwhile, raising questions over the change of route for ‘Ulta Rath Yatra’ by ISKCON at Kumarghat, but did not comment anything saying that Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha had already ordered for enquiry by the District Magistrate (DM) of Unakoti.
