BJP using muscle, money power to win February 16 assembly polls, Sitaram Yechury
The opposition CPI(M) claimed that ruling BJP are rampantly using muscle and money power to win the February 16 assembly election and through violent attacks are continuing terrorizing the general voters of the state.
Addressing a press conference here at CPI(M) headquarters on Friday morning CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury accompanied by party’s state unit secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said that BJP has understand that people of the will not allow them return back and now they desperately using money and power to lure the voters.
Yechury said that one thing very palpable and is very clear that the mode of the people of Tripura for change and it’s so much that people are not thinking to support any combination, but they are determined to oust the BJP government.
“It is the responsible of all of us to restore rule of law and restore peace and democracy in the state, these are very palpable and visible and that could be fact of reason that reign of terror and anti-democratic activities took place in the last five years coupled with very deep misrule and corruption,” said Yechury.
He said that there are lots of burning issues in front electoral and people are urging the opposition party to help us by putting an end to the BJP regime and making life with harassment and violence.
People of Tripura want relief from this oppression rule and are now also asking what BJP made promises five years ago and what they did in the last five years. In MGNREGA Tripura had a record of 92 mandays , now it has come down to 8 days and the state has record of highest number of land Patta distribution, said Yechury.
He also said that these five years also seen drastic fall of people's livelihood conditions and so far all these factors, all political parties believe in democracy and the constitution of India has vowed to ensure the defeat of BJP and restore the path of democracy and the prosperity for the people.
"The BJP, Centre, state government nexus coupled with the police and the other authorities hatched a serious conspiracy to rig the elections. Three days before the polling, there could be serious law and order problems staged by the BJP," claimed Yechury.
He also said that it is not a question who will win or lose the election, democracy and rule of law must prevail as the reign of terror and deep-rooted corruption that started after the BJP-led government came to power in Tripura have to be stopped.
Demanding protection of voters from their homes to the polling stations, Yechury said that the BJP and their goons have already started their large-scale intimidations and threats especially to those who support the opposition.
Yechury said that the Election Commission must take proactive, appropriate steps to allow the voters to come to the polling stations and cast their votes fearlessly.
A delegation of Left parties would meet the Election Commission to apprise it on the prevailing situation in Tripura, said Yechury and added that the ECI should ensure protection of democratic rights of voting to all people of the state.
Speaking in the press meet CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury no democratic environment was left in the state and despite assurance of ‘zero poll violence’ by the ECI, the ruling challenging the ECI’s assurance has intensified their violent activities across the state and attacking oppositions.
"Before the 2018 Assembly polls, the BJP had made 299 assurances but nothing was implemented. On Thursday, BJP President J.P. Nadda announced 24 promises and most of them are unrealistic. The BJP is expert in fooling the people," said Chaudhury.
He said that in their election manifesto -- Sankalp Patra 2023 -- nothing was mentioned about unemployment, job creation and for the interest of the government employees.
Jitendra Chaudhury asked why the poll panel brought the Assam and Gujarat state police and they requested the ECI to look into the matter seriously. The CAPF should also deploy outside the polling station, so voters can cast their vote freely, said Chaudhury.
Regarding alliance with Tipra-Motha, he said that till the last moment, they tried their best for a common platform and added that Motha leader has also openly stated that all democratic political parties should ensure the division of anti-BJP votes. He said that people of the state have an adjustment with all democratic forces and finally, vowed to ensure the rule of law should prevail in the state.
While Yechury said that local level adjustment is always local level, they cannot answer it by sitting in party headquarters and it could depend on constituency level. If the division of votes could help, then there may be some understanding to stop the division of votes. He also said that if people are determined to change BJP, so there are no changes of hung assembly, the change mode reflected that soon an alternative government would be formed in Tripura.
