BJP’s ST Morcha leaders attacked at Baramura hill ranges; police fired in blank
Massive violence erupted at the National Highway-8 portion of Baramura Hill Ranges on Saturday evening after the convoy of BJP’s ST Morcha national president Samir Oraon was allegedly attack by some unruly supporters of Tipra-Motha, who are returning their homes after participated in the massive rally in Agartala. Security forces had fired five rounds in blank to disperse the mob and rescued BJP leaders.
Sources said that amidst heavy traffic jams in the Baramura Hill ranges on Saturday evening, when the convoy of BJP’s ST Morcha national president and MP Samir Oraon passes through the Bankumari temple area of national highway, large number of Motha supporters were returning their homes, suddenly blockade the road, which created massive traffic jams.
After noticing the convoy of BJP leaders including state ST Morcha president Bikash Debbarma, MDC Bidyut Debbarma and former MDC Pratiram Tripura, a large number of people allegedly supporters of Tipra-Motha started heavy stone pelting targeting the convoy of BJP leaders.
At a time, the mob started approaching the vehicles of BJP leaders and they severally ransacked two vehicles of the convoy. In the meantime, security guards of the BJP leaders tried to resist the mob, but they continued their violent attacks. Then, the personnel security officers (PSOs) of the leaders fired five rounds in the air to disperse the agitated mob and somehow rescued the leaders including MP Samir Oraon.
Police sources said that after the incident was reported, a large number of security forces led by Additional SP (Khowai) and SDPO(Kalyanpur) Prasun Tripura rushed to the spot and tried to defuse the tension.
ADC’s Executive Member (EM) Kamal Koloi was also present at the spot and police forces after clearing the road have also released all stranded vehicles and their passengers towards the destinations.
While, after safely returned back to Agartala, speaking with media persons MP Samir Oraon and Bikash Debbarma said that they were returning from Kanchanpur and when their vehicles reached near Bankumari temple in Baramura, large number of Tipra-Motha supporters attacked on their convoy with heavy stone pelting targeting their vehicles. Samir Oraon said that Motha supporters had also ransacked their two vehicles, but they were narrowly escaped from violent attack by Motha supporters due to timely action taken by their security guards.
