Bru resettlement expedite, process to be completed by Feb 28
The rehabilitation process of all Bru migrants are going on speedily and till date altogether 4,102 Bru families were resettled in 12 designated spots across four districts of the state.
Addressing a press conference here at Civil Secretariat on Saturday to highlight the achievements of the Revenue department, Principal Secretary Puneet Agarwal said that the entire resettlement process of 6,959 Bru families will be completed by February 28, 2023 next.
Urging the all Bru families with population of 37,136, Agarwal said that if all Bru families are not cooperate with government agencies for their fastest resettlement process in all 12 designated spots across 4 districts of the state by the extended dateline, then validation of tripartite agreement will not come into effect after February 28 next.
Government stressed on early completion of the rehabilitation process to all Bru migrants, Agarwal said that Bru leaders must be very cooperative to send the names of the rest families as per rehabilitation spots to the government before February 28 next.
As per the agreement among Tripura, Mizoram, Central governments and Bru organizations, a historic decision has been taken to rehabilitate all Bru families in 12 designated spots across the state and the entire rehabilitation process should be completed at the earliest.
He appealed to the leaders of Bru organization to cooperate with government agencies to make the process faster.
Agarwal said that the state government has selected 12 locations, where 6,959 families of Bru migrants with a population of 37,136 will be resettled in the specified locations in different districts of the state.
It may be recalled here that over two decades after they escaped ethnic violence in Mamit, Kolasib and Lunglei districts of Mizoram, 32,000 Bru migrants are now being permanently resettled in Tripura after an agreement signed by the Union government, state governments of Tripura and Mizoram, and the Bru migrants, in January 16, 2020 last.
Agarwal said that so far the leaders of Bru migrants have provided the spot wise resettlement list for 4,102 families and the resettlement process for the rest of Bru families is now going on rapidly in 12 designated spots of the state..
He said that so far the cleaning works of jungle in resettle areas, making the earth into plain land, construction of roads, infrastructures for drinking water and setting up of electricity connections, solar lighting systems, construction of toilets, schools, health sub-centre houses and common toilets are going on rapidly. Agarwal also appealed to all rest Bru families to come forward for their early resettlement.
