City police burst chain snatching network, 5 arrested including govt employee, loan company manager
The Agartala city police in a significant breakthrough have bursted a big racket of chain snatching to sanctioning of gold loans by few executives of Manappuram Gold Finance Ltd and arrested five persons involved in the racket and also recovered two stolen gold chains.
Addressing a press conference here at West Agartala police station on Tuesday afternoon, SDPO(Sadar) Ajoy Kumar Das along with OC of West Agartala police station Jayanta Kumar Dey said that during investigation of a chain snatching case registered on September 23rd last, the West Agartala police station and the investigating officer (IO) of the case SI Abhijit Mondal get some vital information and planned a operation.
As per the plan, the police conducted raids on Monday night, which continued till Tuesday morning and arrested five persons including a government employee and manager of Manappuram Gold Finance Ltd for their direct involvement in the snatching network.
He said that police team first managed to arrest two gold chain snatchers identified as Amrit Roy and Sagar Namo, both are from Anandanagar area under Srinagar police station and based on the confessional statements, police arrested two persons, who were purchasing the stolen gold jewelleries in cheap rate from the snatchers including an government employee of Barjala school, identified as Mintu Das of South Ramnagar area and his associate Amaresh Chakraborty of Kalikapur area under West Agartala police station.
Das said after interrogating four arrested miscreants, police arrested the manager of Manappuram Gold Finance Ltd, located at Agartala , Riman Chakraborty , who has given them easy gold finance facilities without verifying any documents.
So, the city police has bursted the entire network of gold chain snatching and arrested five persons, who will be produced before a local court with police remand appeals to unearth the entire network of thieves, said Das.
He said that police have initiated a massive investigation to find out the rule of Manappuram Gold Finance Ltd and are there other gold items in their deposit, which were stolen items. Das added that a detailed investigation would be carried out and if any other persons involved in the racket will also be arrested soon.
