CM visits Kumarghat, PM expressed deep grief, announces ex-gratia for victims, injured persons
After the tragic incident of electrocution in a chariot of ‘Ulta Rath’ at Kumarghat on Wednesday afternoon, in which seven devotees killed and 16 more injured, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha immediately rushed to the spot by a local train from Agartala and reached the incident spot at late evening.
Soon after arrival at Kumarghat railway station, Dr Saha accompanied by Minister Tinku Roy and local MLA Bhagaban Chandra Das along with DM and SP of Unakoti district visited the incident spot and spoked to some eyewitnesses.
He also visited the Kumarghat and Fatikroy hospitals and met all injured persons, who were admitted to the hospital and enquired about their treatment process.
CM through a twitter message said that “In a tragic incident, several devotees have lost their lives & some other people sustained injuries due to electrocution during Ulta Rath Yatra at Kumarghat today.
My deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their near and dear ones in the tragedy. In this difficult time, the State Government stands by the side of the affected families.”
Going to Kumarghat from Agartala by train to inspect the place of occurrence where several people have lost their lives in a tragic incident today.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha condoled the deaths and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Also, he wishes the injured persons a speedy recovery.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the mishap during the Ulta Rath Yatra at Kumarghat, Tripura. PM Modi has announced an ex-gratia from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims.
In a thread of PMO tweets, the Prime Minister said; “The mishap during the Ulta Rath Yatra at Kumarghat is saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this mishap. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected.” “Rs. 2 lakh ex-gratia from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 would be given to those injured in the mishap in Tripura,” said PM.
Later, in the night Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha announced assistance and ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh to the next kin of each deceased, Rs. 2.5 lakh to each injured having more than 60% injuries and Rs. 74,000 to each injured having 40 to 60 % injuries with free medical treatment of all injured persons.
The Chief Minister also said that DM (Unakoti) will conduct an enquiry over the incident.
However, opposition parties Tipra-Motha, CPI (M) and Congress have also expressed their deep anguish and condolence to the bereaved families.
Opposition leader Animesh Debbarma expressed condolences over the incident, and has also raised questions over the preparation of local administration for the procession of Ulta Rath. He said that if the administration was alert over thro routes of the Rath Yatra, then such tragic incident can be averted and demanded fastest enquiry to identify guilty persons for this tragic incident. He also demanded compensation of Rs. 20 lakh to the next kin of each deceased persons and Rs. 10 lakh to each injured persons with free treatment by the state government.
CPI (M) state secretary and MLA Jitendra Chaudhury and Pradesh Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha through separate messages have also expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Also, they wish the injured persons a speedy recovery.
