Congress in Tripura gets new in-charge, more change likely
Congress Working Committee member Girish Chodankar has been appointed as the in-charge of Congress Tripura, a politically important state of the Northeastern state.
The country’s old grand party has been out of power in the northeastern state since 1993 while it managed to win only three Assembly constituencies in the February, 2023 elections.
“Girish Chodankar has been given the charge of Congress in Tripura, Sikkim, Manipur and Nagaland”, an official communiqué from AICC said on Saturday.
Chodankar, senior Congress leader with proven skill in organizational matters replaced Dr Ajay Kumar who was given the charge of Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
It is likely that Szarita Laitphlawng, who was the deputy of Dr Ajay Kumar will be replaced so that the new in-charge could constitute his own team for the state. Except, Samrat Roy , the former NSUI state president, no party leader made any comment over the appointment of new party in-charge on social media handles.
Sources said, Congress MLA Birajit Sinha, who was sidelined after Ashish Kumar Saha became the PCC president, had lodged complaint against the then AICC in-charge (Ajay Kumar) and demanded his ‘transfer’ to save the party in the BJP ruled state.
