Congress observed birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi with patriotic fervor
Opposition Congress in Tripura along with other parts of the country observed the 106th birth anniversary of the only woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi with patriotic fervour.
Indira Gandhi's birth anniversary is observed as the National Integration Day every year on 19th of November all over India.
Congress observed the day through paying floral tributes in front of the Congress offices before the portrait of the former Prime Minister including in the headquarters of the party at Agartala. PCC president Ashish Kumar Saha paid floral tributes before a statue of Indira Gandhi in front of Congress Bhavan in Agartala, where permanent invite member of Congress Working Committee (CWC) and MLA Sudip Roy Barman , AICC secretary Ms Szarita Laitphlang , former PCC chief and MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, president of Mahila Congress Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty and other leaders paid floral tributes.
Congress leaders have also paid their floral tributes at the martyr column in Gandhi Ghat area of the city and have also participated in the mass tree plantation drive.
Similar programmes were also organized at Belonia, Dharmanagar, Kailashahar, Khowai , Kumarghat, Ambassa, Bishalgarh, Sonamura and Udaipur and street meetings were also organized to pay tributes to the late leader.
Later, in the day Congress also distributed food to poor people in Agartala and few other places of the state in presence of PCC leaders. Congress leaders have also distributed clothes to the poor to mark the day.
Indira Gandhi, who was hailed as one of the tallest world leaders, was assassinated by her own bodyguards at her residence located in New Delhi on October 31, 1984. Born on November 19, 1917, to India's first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Kamala Nehru, she served as prime minister for three terms lasting almost 16 years. Gandhi, who is the second longest serving Prime Minister of India.
Congress sources said that different subdivisional wings of the party also observed the day with patriotic fervour.
