Congress organized tribal conference, staged protest rally against Manipur violence
Opposition Congress on Wednesday celebrated the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples and the anniversary of ‘quit India’ movement through a different programme.
On Wednesday, the leaders of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) observed the Quit India movement day by paying tributes to great freedom fighters of the country and in the afternoon, Congress organised a tribal conference at Muktadhara auditorium to celebrate the day for World's Indigenous Peoples.
The Congress leaders and workers have also organized a rally in the city to show their protest against continuous violence in Manipur.
While speaking in the tribal conference Pradesh Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha said that the tribal conference has begun with ‘Adibashi Gourav Parva’ to raise the voice against long deprivation of tribal communities of the country.
He said that the tribal leaders and workers of the party from various parts of the state have participated in conferences and held detailed discussions to strengthen the Scheduled Caste (ST) cell of the party. Along with many senior state leaders of the party including MLAs Gopal Roy, Sudip Roy Barman and AICC secretary Ms Szarita Laitphlang were also present in the conference.
Saha said that there is a good support base for Congress in tribal dominated areas and the August 9th conference has also finalized the party's activities and movements against long deprivation of tribal communities by the ruling BJP government.
