Construction of new modern market complex at Battala from March, 2024, Mayor
The busiest and crowded Battala Market to be replaced with a modern integrated market building and the construction work of modernization of the Battala Market will commence from March, 2024 next.
Mayor of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumdar while visiting the market on Sunday said that the present government has planned to reform and renovate the entire Battala Market with a completely modern and new look. There are a good number of traders in the market doing their business year after year in poor conditions and to ensure the interest of both traders and customers, it has also been decided to undertake the construction works in a phased manner so that traders and the business community can sustain their business and livelihoods, said Majumder.
Some temporary shop-houses will be built as an alternative arrangement at the adjoining TRTC Complex to accommodate traders during the construction works first he new market complex, said Majumder. Deputy AMC Commissioner Subrata Chakraborty and other engineers, officials of the AMC and line departments were also present with the Mayor while finalizing the construction for the new market place. Most of the traders expressed their satisfaction with the decision of AMC to finalize the construction site. They have however urged the Mayor to undertake the construction work on time after allocating them temporary stalls at TRTC complex to run their businesses.
