CPI (M) says confusion over seat adjustment with Congress come to end on Feb 2nd, no progress with Motha
Amidst statewide confusion over seat adjustment among Left Front, Congress and Tipra-Motha, the CPI(M) state secretariat on Wednesday evening claimed that the confusion over the seat adjustment with Congress will come to its end on Thursday, the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers.
CPI(M) state committee through a press statement claimed that in order to ensure the defeat of BJP and to stop the ‘fascistic’ rule in Tripura by restoring the rules of law, the Left Front and Congress has formed seat adjustment and as per the decisions of both parties, the LF are contesting in the February 16 assembly polls in 47 seats and give 13 seats for Congress.
But, surprisingly Congress has fielded their nomination papers in 17 seats and LF has also filed nomination papers in 13 seats, in which Congress is contesting the election.
After rounds of discussion among the leaders of both parties, it was decided that considering the demand of Congress, the LF will withdraw its candidate from Pabiyacherra (SC) reserved constituency instead of Pecharthal constituency.
The CPI(M) state committee hoped that now Congress respecting the sentiments of state’s people and seat adjustment policies of both parties, will withdraw their candidates for seats and LF will also withdraw its candidates from 13 seats including from SC reserved Pabiyacherra seat.
It may be recalled here that as per seat adjustment policies of both LF and Congress, the Congress has earlier agreed to contest in the elections Kailasaha, Dharmanagar, Pecharthal, Karamcherra, Kamalpur, Teliamura, Mohanpur, Agartala, Bardowali, Banamalipur, Suryamaninagar, Charilam and Matabari assembly constituencies.
Earlier, CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury also said that the confusion among both parties over seat adjustment will come to end on February 2nd, and all of the candidates will withdraw their nomination papers.
As he announced on Tuesday during an election rally in Sabroom that Tipra-Motha will also join the seat adjustment policies along with LF and Congress to ensure the defeat of BJP, till Wednesday night there are no such meeting among the leaders of Motha and CPI(M) held and confusion over the statement of Chowdhury still continues.
Sources said that the Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, who is now in Shillong does not have any communication with Left leaders over the proposal of seat adjustment.
While, senior Tipra-Motha leader Animesh Debbarma said that their party is contesting in all 42 seats, where their party candidates filed their nomination papers and there are no possibilities of any seat adjustment with any other political parties.
Meanwhile, Jitendra Chowdhury also said that Tipra-Motha did not fielded any candidate in 18 assembly seats, where leaders of both CPI(M) and Congress are contesting the elections as Pradyot Kishore wants to ensure the victory of all candidates to restore rules of law.
