Delivery boy death case produced before High Court, bail petitions of 5 accused again rejected
In a significant development in the mysterious death case of online delivery boy Prasenjit Sarkar from Dharmanagar in North Tripura, finally the case has been produced before the High Court of Tripura from a lower court following prolonged legal proceedings.
According to High Court advocate Debdas Baksi, no bail was granted to the accused during their appearance on Wednesday at the court of District and Session Judge of North Tripura district, and the case has been formally referred to the High Court.
Sources said that the charge-sheet in the case was filed 72 days after the incident. Following the submission of the charge-sheet, a fresh hearing was held on Wednesday. During the hearing, when the five accused were presented before the court, the Court decided to transfer the matter to the High Court.
Advocate Baksi added that he has been handling the case for the past 72 days. He alleged that while in judicial custody, the accused attempted to threaten witnesses in the case through various means. This matter has also been brought to the court’s attention.
He further expressed hope that the next phase of the trial process would commence at the earliest. “We remain optimistic that the judicial proceedings will begin soon. We will make every possible legal effort to ensure justice,” he said.
Since the beginning, the death of Prasenjit Sarkar has triggered strong reactions across the state. The victim’s family members and local residents have been demanding exemplary punishment for the culprits.
