Discussion on Governor Speech begins: Congress, CPI (M) protests over Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from LS
The second day of the first session of Tripura legislative assembly had a day long discussions over the motion of thanks to the address by the Governor in participation of both treasury and opposition benches.
The secondary proceedings of assembly begins with obituary references, then the leader of the House and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha lay the copy of the ‘The Tripura Land Revenue and Land Reforms (17th amendment) Rules, 2022 and the ‘annual report of Tripura Police Accountability Commission for the year 2021’ on the table of the House.
While, starting the discussions over the motion of thanks to the address by the Governor, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the state government working on motto of ‘Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Bikash’ and the government taking all possible steps to make the state as ‘model state’ of the country, which means a self-reliant Tripura.
Seeking the cooperation of all, Nath said that the present state government is moving towards development with inspiration of Swami Vivekananda and highlighted the achievements of the state government in the last five years.
Participating in the discussion, opposition leader Animesh Debbarma demanded correction over the speech of the Governor and urged the government to take more positive steps to develop the ADC areas of the state.
The legislator leader of the CPI (M) Jitendra Chaudhury has also delivered his address demanding correction over the address of the Governor and highlighted the post-poll violence across the state.
In support of the motion, from treasury bench MLAs Jitendra Majumder, Antara Sarkar Deb, Kishore Barman, Swapna Das Paul and Ranjit Das discussed, while from opposition bench Tipra-Motha MLAs Brishaketu Debbarma, Ranjit Debbarma, Biswajit Koloi, Swapna Debbarma and Sanjoy Manik Tripura participated.
The opposition MLAs from CPI(M) legislative team including Shayamal Chakraborty, Dipankar Sen, Nirmal Biswas, Shailendra Chandra Debnath, Islam Uddin, Ramu Das, Sudip Sarkar and Nayan Sarkar were also participated along two Congress MLAs Birajit Sinha and Gopal Chandra Roy.
Congress MLAs had also displayed placards during motion of thanks protesting the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha.
However, the opposition legislators did not disrupt the proceedings of the house. Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy attended the house in black attire as a mark of protest against the disqualification of Gandhi from Parliament. Congress MLA Birajit Sinhasaid that to protect democracy and protest against injustice, they are continuing their protest inside and outside the Assembly.
Rahul Gandhi's voice was suppressed by the BJP government and he was not allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha unethically before being disqualified. The people of this country would not accept the murder of the democracy in India, said Sinha.
Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership was terminated on March 24 after a day after he was sentenced to two years imprisonment by a magistrate court in Surat district court in Gujarat in a criminal defamation case. The defamation case was against him over his alleged 'Modi surname' remark in 2019 in Karnataka.
