Fake government job racket busted in Agartala; main accused arrested
In a major breakthrough, Agartala city police on Saturday busted a large fake government job racket and arrested the prime accused, who allegedly duped several job aspirants of lakhs of rupees by promising them employment in government departments.
Providing details, Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, Subrata Debnath, said that acting on specific inputs about fraudulent activities carried out through a Facebook account named ‘Karma Barta’, police tracked down the accused. He was apprehended red-handed in the Math Chowmuhani area while attempting to collect money from a job aspirant in exchange for a promised position in the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
According to police, the accused initially identified himself as Dilip Saha. However, during interrogation, his real identity was revealed as Taj Uddion Ali, a resident of Cooch Behar district in West Bengal. He had been operating from a secret hideout in Agartala and used social media platforms to lure unemployed youth with false promises of government jobs.
Debnath said the accused had allegedly issued fake appointment letters for various state and central government departments and collected large sums of money from victims. In one such case, he had already taken Rs 8.5 lakh from a youth and was about to hand over a fake appointment letter in return for an additional Rs 50,000 when police intervened and arrested him.
During investigation, police recovered several fake appointment letters from the accused’s mobile phone, indicating that the racket had been running for quite some time. Following his arrest, another female aspirant also lodged a complaint, stating that she was supposed to pay Rs 35,000 on the same day for a promised government job.
Police produced the accused before a local court on Saturday, seeking remand for further interrogation to uncover the full extent of the racket and identify other possible victims and accomplices.
